How to grow our capacity to Cope:<\/h2>\n

Develop pre-performance routines to keep your focus on the task and offer helpful cues to maximize readiness.<\/p>\n

Routines should help you \u201cget into character\u201d ahead of a competition.<\/p>\n

These routines can often consist of something behavioural. For example, deep breathing, stretching, dynamic warm-up, hand-eye drills, etc. Additionally, they might include something cognitive such as meditation, positive self-talk, imagery, identifying goals, etc.<\/p>\n

Visualize, or imagine, specific difficult moments that may arise during competition. Prime your nervous system by mentally rehearsing specific scenes. This will help you feel more ready to deal with them should they arise.<\/p>\n

How to grow Confidence:<\/h2>\n

Commit to the right kind of thinking.<\/p>\n

Catch yourself if thoughts or images turn unproductive.\u00a0 Practice shifting the focus to something that will help strengthen your belief in success.<\/p>\n

Surround yourself with people whose opinions and company bolster your own sense of worth.<\/p>\n

How to grow Commitment:<\/h2>\n

Set goals ahead of time of what you want your commitment to look like.<\/p>\n

Think of moments and situations that tend to negatively affect your own commitment. When do you tend to drop off and fall away from your goals.<\/p>\n

Plan how you would like to address these moments.<\/p>\n

Practice distancing yourself from unhelpful self-talk. It\u2019s often our own words that persuade us to give up or quit prematurely. Notice when your internal dialogue is attempting to persuade you and focus your attention on W.I.N.<\/p>\n

Change your relationship with adversity.<\/p>\n

Rather than simply dealing with challenges that we face in a healthier way, practice seeking them out.<\/p>\n
